BEING CATHOLIC: A NEW (AND OLD) STRUGGLE

How does a Catholic woman stay committed to her church when she feels that scandal has rocked its foundations? What happens to her spiritual life? How does she relate to a leadership that persists in allowing her less than equal participation.

Women have found various ways of coming to terms with this lack of power in their church and have been able to keep their personal spiritual lives in tact. Some women have left the church, found other communities. Still others have left and returned to what they regard as their spiritual home. Looking at the experiences of these women might help clarify our dilemmas.

Led by Sheila Albert, Ph.D.
Dr. Sheila Albert, psychotherapist and consultant, will help us explore these questions. The goal of the four meetings is to help each of us find our own relationship to our personal spirituality and to our Catholicism; and to look at our current and past religious choices. Dr. Albert's doctoral research focused on 138 Catholic women and how they have navigated their personal relationships with the church. Their experiences will be shared as well as other resources from movements for change within the church, current feminist theology and alternative religious forms.

Cost: $48. Please make reservations.
