ONGOING DROP-IN SUPPORT GROUP FOR FAMILY MEMBERS AND FRIENDS OF ALCOHOLICS/ADDICTS

Wednesdays, 12:15 to 1:15 p.m., facilitated by Jane D. Lind, M.A., MFT

Support is necessary for people who live close to someone struggling with addiction--regardless of whether the alcoholic/addict is active or in recovery. Isolation and shame accompany the struggle and can be paralyzing. When alone with the disease, family members and friends lose their perspective; they tend to lose their own desires and preferences in loving response to the heartbreak of addiction.
Discussion in this ongoing drop-in group is based on theories of family systems, 12-step principles, and the disease model of addiction. The group offers the opportunity to discuss, with a licensed family counselor and with others, one's own priorities and approaches to developing and expressing one's self when challenged by the denial and compulsion of addiction.
