Recovering the Presence (Presents) of God Sometimes we wonder whether God exists only in our proclamations; whether our proclamations are in reality simply attempts on our part to awaken a response from a God who in our true experience is so silent that it makes us wonder: Is anyone there? Some would diagnose this sense of silence as a failure of faith. But is it? Could it be the starting point of a true revelation of the God whose subtle voice has been overwhelmed by the very din of our verbose advocacy? This six-session course will wrestle with this problem with the help of Rilke, Wallace Stevens, Proust and others who seem to have taken the apparent Silence of God as the fruitful point of departure toward finding God closer than they ever realized. Discussion among participants of such experiences will make up 50 percent of each session. Dr. Wood has a Ph.D. in Sacred Theology from Catholic University, Washington, D.C., and a Licentiate in Sacred Scripture from Rome's Pontifical Bible Institute. He taught at Catholic University, Swarthmore and Bucknell University. Cost: $72. (Bring a friend free) Please make reservations. |
