One can be fully committed to scientific medicine and still hold the view that other dimensions to healing can be found within the individual. Modern medicine has lost touch with the ancient religious attitude of disease as an aspect of a god who tells us in Deuteronomy, "I wound and I heal."
Sacred medicine holds that the appearance of any serious illness and the healing of it belong n the realm of the gods and that an experience of the sacred mystery of healing results in the total transformation of life.
Individuals in the medical and caring professions and those whose lives have been touched by illness will be especially interested in this presentation.
Dr. Souza is a certified acupuncturist in private practice in Santa Rosa. He has a special interest in mythology, shamanism, Jung, and the spiritual aspects of health and disease. He has taught throughout California for the past 12 years.
