Shame & the Sacred: Recovering from addictions of all kinds is a life-long process. It is also a spiritual journey, and an adventure into new and unexplored dimensions - a call to greater depth, increased freedom, and imaginative and creative possibilities. For some, this calling is felt as a longing for a deeper union, a more intimate connection to a Higher Power. How can we best respond to this inner thirst? What are some of the challenges we are likely to face as we choose to walk this path? During this retreat we will focus on the way in which unhealed and unacknowledged shame continues to affect our spiritual life, manifesting in a variety of ways. Through didactic presentations, group process, meditation and journaling we will endeavor to approach the relm of the sacred by gently uncovering and then embracing the shame which binds us. This retreat is for those who have been in recovery for some time and are comfortable with periods of silent meditation and contemplative prayer. Peter Coster is a licensed psychotherapist in private practice, with offices in Sonoma and Berkeley. He has been leading workshops and retreats on the spirituality of addiction recovery for the last ten years. He is an adjunct faculty member at JFK University. Cost: $185. (Includes room, board and tuition.) Please make reservations. |
