Reflection
We hardly ever read all of the Scriptures assigned to the Easter Vigil any more and I'm sorry about that. It might take a long time during an already lengthy liturgy, but when you read them all read one after the other, you can hardly help but be overwhelmed by the extraordinary goodness of God: a God who thought up all the wonders of creation and then gets involved in such an intimate relationship with his own creatures; a God who is described as both maker and husband; a God who offers to quench our thirst freely and abundantly; a God who promises blessings and freedom and steadfast fidelity. Ah, such is our God, no other is to be compared to him! I don't know about you but I need to be swept off my feet once in awhile, blown away by the fantastic reality of God's greatness and how much I am cherished by God! So I look forward to the Easter Vigil: to stand in the darkness and be dazzled by the light; to be dry from the forty days of wilderness and then splashed with the waters of baptism; to admit my weakness and then be strengthened by the bread of Eucharist and community. Oh, yes, I love to be overwhelmed by God!!
