Using
Noreen Vest's Gathered in the Word: Praying the Scripture in Small
Groups as a resource, we will explore this century old way of
listening to scriptures for a good word from God. Rather than
a method of study, lectio divina (pronounced lex-ee-oh dih-vee-nuh)
is a way of deep prayer, of encounter with God. It is a seeking
of God and God's own word within the scripture. It also connects
prayer with life's current issues, fully engaging the mind and
the body as active partners is spiritual nourishment. The primary
disposition needed for lectio divina is a willingness to be open
to God in one's life. Group lectio divina offers guidance and
support for remaining attentive in listening, in silence, and
in reflection on the particulars of our individual lives as we
seek a living word from God together.
The
leader is Judy Hull, M.A.T., a Spiritual Director at Angela Center
and Pastor for Spiritual Formation in a local congregation. She
particularly welcomes those whose "well" of Bible reading
has gone dry and who are looking for a fresh, enlivening approach
to scripture.
