Jeremiah 17: 5-10

Luke 16: 19-31

Scripture
"He is like a tree by the waterside that thrusts its roots to the stream. When the heat comes it feels no alarm, its foliage stays green."
Reflection
Ah, equanimity. Wouldn't I love to achieve it! The author is speaking of one "who puts his trust in Yahweh". I'd like to think I do, yet I still rant at the headlines, and claim that the world is going to the bow-wows. Perhaps if I step back, I might get a sense of the big picture, and realize that the Spirit is still blowing through the world. I might even look around and notice some "everyday saints" I know, quietly bearing fruit, steadfast in faith and full of humor. These worthies are no Pollyannas, denying harsh realities. They simply refuse to get bogged down; rather they stay focused on answering a silent call, true to their best instincts. Come to think of it, I could make quite a list of these folks. Who would be on yours?
Mantra
I trust in you, my God.
