Exodus 32:7-14

John 5:31-47

Scripture
"They have soon turned aside from the way I pointed out to them…"
Reflection
In Exodus and John we discover our tendency as humans to look for things that will make us happy and give us a better life.

Instead of humbling ourselves and yielding to loving God who will always provide, we tend to take matters into our own hands by turning a deaf ear to his promptings and following the world to see first how that works for us, then as a last resort we grovel with God. As a parent, God is understandably upset by his earthly children seeking knowledge and power in idols like money and things that money can buy, only to find that the world will not provide for us in the manner that we so desire. At which point, the only last option is to grovel with God. He wants us to make him first in our lives and to trust in his provisions for us.
