thirst," Jesus cried from the cross. "Water!" called
the victims of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. "Water!" plead the people of Zimbabwe, Haiti, Gaza, Iraq, Chechnya and U.S. inner cities. And we die without water. We die without drinking from the well of sacred reality. When Moses and the Israelites wandered the Sinai, they knew acute body-soul thirst-and blamed Moses. He turned to his Source, asking, "What shall I do?" The reply that came is for us too: "Strike the rock, and the water will flow from it for the people to drink." ...more |
