Jesus…. Here With Us
They put him to death by hanging him onn a tree. This man God 
raised (on) the third day and granted that he be visible…to us, the witnesses choden by God…who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. Acts 10: 39-41
In many post-resurrection stories, the witnesses emphasize that Jesus ate and drank with them. It is deeply encouraging to me, after the terrible physical details of his passion and death on the cross, that we are shown Jesus alive after Easter in this very physical way. He is not a vague spiritualized abstraction.
What is it about eating and drinking with one another that is so centrally human? Not only are food and drink essential to sustain us, but the sharing of it is a special sign of oneness with each other. At a family Easter meal, I suddenly had an image in my mind of Jesus joining us at the table…and even eating a chocolate bunny with the youngest.
Beloved Jesus, we rejoice that you are REALLY here with us. ALLELUIA!
